CREEP Remix

New Tune! We just remixed “You” by fellow Brooklyn duo, CREEP, featuring the vocals of Nina Sky. This one is on the haunting slow-burn tip and we had a great time working on it.
There was a lot of homegrown sound sculpting on this one as much of the rhythm pallet comes from household items like soap bottles, cardboard boxes, coffee grinders and compressed air. Always fun to geek out in the lab.

We just shot our promo photos for our new EP, Cloud Shores, which we just finished writing. Food and Touring

We’ve been talking about pointing out some of the best spots we’ve eaten at on the road and a Gourmet Live Blog article that our friend, Karen, pointed us to actually gave us the fuel to start the list. As the article mentions, a good meal on tour can make all the difference in the vibe on the road, the quality of performance and general sanity.

So here are a few highlights so far from this year and we’d love to hear where you think we should eat on the road as well (check the tour schedule below):

Pizza (with whiskey chaser, of course) – Crested Butte, CO

The Secret Stash – Like typical New Yorkers, we kinda shrug off any recommendations that involve pizza or Italian food (unless we’re in Chicago or at Chris Cosentino’s Incanto for the nose to tail flex in San Francisco) given that New York’s got those on lock. But we had an extra day in Crested Butte and heard multiple people point us to Secret Stash which turned out to be quite possibly the best pizza that either Dave or I had ever eaten. We went with the build your own option with prosciutto, spinach, truffle oil and garlic – it was straight-up outrageous. We closed out that rare day off with a trip back down the street to The Eldo, where we had played the night before. The bartender (apologies for forgetting his name), recognized us and hooked us (and everyone else there) up with some shots of whiskey and we closed out the night listening to some rippin’ Psychobilly, sipping whiskey on full bellies. Pretty memorable.

We (especially Dave) have downed a lot of breakfast burritos but McGill’s, also in Crested Butte, is the clear winner. They smother that thing in the trademark Colorado verde sauce and it’s amazing. We thought the place was called “Miguel’s” though and spent like 20 minutes walking past it like jackasses trying to find it.

Pancakes – Burlington, VT – Magnolia Bistro

We had an incredible brunch here after playing at Higher Ground the night before. I don’t normally do pancakes (or any sweet stuff for breakfast for that matter) but I had a pancake on the side and it was the best I’ve ever had. The room feels like an old-school lodge and everything is local and organic.

Tacos – Austin, TX - Torchy’s Tacos

We know Austin has a zillion taco joints but our man on the ground, Austen (yup) pointed us there and it was incredible. Some of the best tacos and queso we’ve ever had. The hot sauce is proper and the tacos are pretty inventive (fried avocado; scrambled eggs with fried poblano chile and escabeche carrots).

Hotel Room Hospitality – Missoula, MT – This wasn’t a meal but Travis and the Milkcrate Productions crew hooked us up with the nicest hotel room spread we could ask for – nuts, berries, bananas, yogurt covered pretzels, wasabi peas and a bunch of other stuff. All organic and fantastic. We were stocked for the next day’s trip on the road to Bozeman as well. Much respect to the Montana massive.
