Yes Gang!
As we’re back in town from a few crazy weeks of shows, from Hawaii to NYC to Colorado to Northern California– I figured now was as good a time as ever to share some of the wicked music that’s come our way, especially since we missed the May podcast. Too much travel!
and thus I offer this quick jaunt through some summery vibes, starting with Pariah’s “Detroit Falls,” which has been rocking our world so much that it was time to represent; it moves into a cut from our West coast bredren Heyoka’s new record, Cosmic Boogie. Up next is the Balkan/Cumbia/Israeli/Brooklynite jam “Balkumbia” from Balkan Beat Box, followed by our World Cup-approved (!) remix. Grab it for free here at the website!
Taking a trip on an afrobeat flex, we present Part 1 of Falty DL’s unreleased “Mean Streets” project. Groove galore, which feeds into some new-school/old-school pressure courtesy of Kush Arora feat. dancehall DJ extraordinare, Mega Banton flexing strong on Kush’s “Spanish Wall Street” riddim. Brooklyn Afrobeat takes the stage with a classic cut from Anitbalas, followed by a new single from Bowly on Berkane Sol and Mista Men’s “Lengthy Riddim” on Bass Tourist. Rounding it up we’ve got San Francisco’s DJ G with the inimitable “Time is the Fire.”

Whattup Sub Swara-dom!?!?
Greetings from Eastern Parkway, BK where the cherry blossoms have given way to what feels like an endless string of 80 degree days. It’s almost summer, and as a warmup to the huge grip of cross-country gigs we’ve got a-gwarnin, I figured i’d share with you a mix I just did for the Mo’Glo series KEXP/WNYC radio. The SS live set has been getting a LOT more tribal what with Dhruva and I banging away on our drum pads, and this mix shows off a nice, vibey version of that.

It’s that time of the month again – Sub Swara podcast time! For this installment Sharmaji takes the reigns and guides us through 35 minutes of morphing tempos and energy ranging from the deep to the ‘hands-up!’ and traversing all sorts of continental lines. Of course, the mix is peppered with plenty of Sub Swara originals and remixes and also features one of the new remixes from Coup d’Yah Remixes Volume 3 (coming out real soon!), care of the one and only purple dino-bot, Daly City Records‘ Mochipet.
